About
Louisville State Recreation Area encompasses 192 acres along the south bank of the Platte River in eastern Nebraska, part of the Venture Parks Complex. The area features five sandpit lakes with approximately 50 surface acres of water, surrounded by towering cottonwood trees that provide excellent shade and fall colors. Camping is a major draw with over 200 camping pads offering full hookup, electric plus, electric (20-, 30-, and 50-amp), and basic non-electric sites. Modern amenities include shower facilities, modern restrooms, drinking water, dump and fill station, and a playground. Half of the electrical sites accept reservations, while all other sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Recreational opportunities include fishing for bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie, and stocked rainbow trout in the sandpit lakes. A swimming beach on Lake No. 2 operates Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the popular floating playground features a climbing wall, dome, and monkey bars with lifeguards on duty during summer. Only non-powered and electric boats are permitted. Two miles of scenic trails wind through the park for hiking, biking, and winter cross-country skiing. The area also provides canoe access to the Platte River and features a special river canoe campsite. An on-site concession stand offers fishing gear, bait, groceries, camping supplies, and snacks.
