About

Summit Lake State Recreation Area sits three miles west of Tekamah in northeastern Nebraska's Burt County. The 190-acre lake, surrounded by 345 acres of parkland, provides a quieter alternative to larger state recreation areas. The campground features 43 Electric Plus sites with 20, 30, and 50-amp connections and 33 basic tent sites scattered throughout the property. The lake maintains a 5 mph no-wake speed limit, making it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing from the 13 jetties or accessible fishing dock. Anglers target bass, bluegill, catfish, crappie, and walleye. Beyond fishing, the park offers 4 miles of hiking trails, equestrian trails requiring superintendent approval for overnight horse camping, a swimming beach, archery range, playground, and horseshoe pits. Camping facilities include a coin-operated shower house, vault toilets, drinking water hydrants, and an RV dump station. Approximately 75% of electric sites accept reservations through Nebraska Game and Parks up to 180 days in advance; remaining sites operate first-come, first-served with fees paid at the Iron Ranger station.
