About
Willow Prairie Horse Camp sits at 4,400 feet in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, surrounded by tall timber on the edge of a beautiful meadow. Originally established in the 1950s, the campground was converted to an equestrian facility in 1990 through a partnership between the Forest Service and the Coalition of Equestrian Clubs. Each of the 10 campsites features four corrals, a fire ring with grill, and a picnic table, with ample parking for horse trailers. The campground serves as a gateway to 19 miles of interconnecting horse trails that wind through the diverse terrain of the Cascade Range, including views of 9,495-foot Mt. McLoughlin in the Sky Lakes Wilderness. A watering trough is available for horses, and a trailer is provided on-site for manure and hay disposal. Adjacent to the camp is a wetland area featuring beaver dams and several large ponds where wildlife abounds. Sandhill cranes, Canada geese, ducks, elk, and deer frequent the area. The historic Willow Prairie Guard Station, constructed in 1924 and recently restored, sits on the edge of the meadow. Fish Lake, just 10 minutes away, offers fishing, boating, and swimming.
