About
Willow Prairie Horse Camp sits at 4,400 feet elevation in tall timber just southwest of Mt. McLoughlin, adjacent to a beautiful meadow and wetland area. Originally established in the 1950s, the campground was renovated in 1990 through a partnership between the Forest Service and the Coalition of Equestrian Clubs to create a premier equestrian facility. Each of the 10 campsites is equipped with four corrals for horses, and the campground provides access to 19 miles of maintained, interconnecting horse trails that wind through rugged peaks, sparkling lakes, and forested areas of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The adjacent wetland features beaver dams and large ponds where wildlife abounds. Visitors can spot sandhill cranes, Canada geese, ducks, elk, deer, and many other species. The historic Willow Prairie Guard Station, constructed in 1924 as a firefighter station, sits on the edge of the meadow and was recently restored by local volunteers. A campground host is onsite from Memorial Day through Labor Day to assist with questions about the campground and trail system. Fish Lake is just 10 minutes away, offering additional recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, and swimming.
