Open — Open year-round for reservations. Access through the gate requires a combination code provided in your reservation confirmation email. Check-in is 2:00 p.m., check-out is 12:01 p.m.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 1:51AM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
Relative humidity values are expected to fall below 30 percent again this afternoon as winds pick up from the south. Given the dry vegetation, outdoor fires will be able to spread quickly once started. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. If you do burn, use extreme caution as fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.
About
Willis Knob Horse Camp is one of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest's premier equestrian destinations, situated in a heavily wooded area of the northern Georgia mountains far from civilization. This horse-dedicated campground is located near the Georgia-South Carolina border amid deep canyons and offers a true backcountry experience for riders and their stock. The campground provides single, double, and group campsites equipped with electric and water hookups, tables, lantern posts, and campfire rings with grills. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are available on-site. Equestrian amenities include hitching highlines, a horse watering station, and trailers for manure disposal. There is no dump station at the campground; the closest is at Black Rock State Park in Mountain City. Access to the gated campground requires a security code provided with reservation confirmations. The 15-mile Willis Knob Trail in Georgia and 12.5-mile Rocky Gap Trail in South Carolina provide some of the most scenic horseback riding and hiking in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains. These trails wind across deeply dissected ridges and descend into the vast Chattooga River corridor. The 10.7-mile Chattooga River Trail and 37-mile Bartram Trail are also accessible nearby for hiking only. Fishing is available in the nearby Wild and Scenic Chattooga River.
