Nestled in the Blue Ridge foothills of South Carolina, Oconee State Park Campground provides a mountain retreat experience with modern conveniences. The main campground features 139 sites with individual water and electrical hookups, picnic tables, and some sites offering sewer connections. For those seeking a more rustic experience, 15 designated walk-in tent sites are available near sites 70 and 75, each with fire rings and picnic tables. All sites have convenient access to restrooms with hot showers. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, this historic 1,165-acre park maintains much of its original character while offering modern amenities. The park features an old-fashioned swimming lake, boat rentals (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and jon boats), fishing opportunities, and several wooded nature trails. The park serves as the southern trailhead for South Carolina's 77-mile Foothills Trail along the Blue Ridge Escarpment. Additional amenities include a dump station, mini golf course, and a park store. The campground is ideal for families and offers organized activities including summer square dancing and holiday events. A primitive group camping area accommodates organized groups up to 50 people. Pets are welcome in most outdoor areas when leashed. Winter closures may affect some campsites from December through March. Reservations require a two-night minimum and can be made through the South Carolina State Parks system.
