About
West Fork Campground offers an intimate and isolated camping experience along the west fork of the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. This small 5-site campground provides walk-in only sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post, creating a primitive yet comfortable base for exploring the surrounding wilderness. The campground's elevated position offers scenic views of the Chattooga River, one of the Southeast's premier wild rivers. Anglers can fish directly from camp or explore the river by kayak or canoe. Popular activities include day hiking on nearby trails such as the Bartram Trail, Chattooga River Trail, 3-Forks Trail, and Holcomb Creek Trail. The area features numerous waterfalls and the Warwoman Wildlife Management Area is just a few miles west. This is a true backcountry-style campground with minimal amenities. Visitors must pack in all gear from the parking area, bring their own drinking water, and be prepared for primitive conditions. The setting provides exceptional solitude and a connection to the wilderness that larger developed campgrounds cannot match. Rabun Bald, Georgia's second-highest peak at 4,696 feet, lies to the northwest for those seeking additional adventure.
Directions
From Clayton, Georgia, drive east on Warwoman Road for approximately 13.2 miles, turn left on Overflow Creek Road (Forest Service Road 86) and continue 1 mile to the campground on the left.
