About
William J. Rish Recreation Area spans 100 acres on Cape San Blas, stretching from the Gulf of Mexico across the peninsula to St. Joseph Bay. Specifically designated for people with disabilities, their families and caregivers, the park features extensive accessible amenities including boardwalks, beach wheelchairs, and motorized equipment rentals. Two family-style cabins provide overnight accommodations, each featuring two bedrooms sleeping up to five people, fully equipped kitchens, accessible restrooms with zero-entry showers, and surrounding boardwalks with picnic areas and propane grills. The park offers a mile of pristine white-sand beach accessible via boardwalk, with opportunities for swimming, shelling, snorkeling, and fishing. A tunnel beneath the road connects to the bayside, where visitors can launch canoes or kayaks into St. Joseph Bay, wade in calm waters, or explore nature trails. The 4-foot-deep swimming pool features a chair lift and wheelchair access ramp. Day-use visitors can enjoy picnic facilities, shower stations, and a visitor center offering ranger programs and mobility aid rentals. Wildlife viewing includes bald eagles, swallow-tailed kites, wading birds, and threatened beach mice in the dunes.
