Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park sits on a barrier island fronting Apalachicola Bay, featuring miles of undeveloped white sand beaches along the Gulf of Mexico. The 60-site campground is tucked behind the dunes in a pine flatwoods forest, providing shade and wind protection while remaining just a quarter-mile walk from the beach. All sites include water and electric hookups, a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post, accommodating RVs up to 43 feet. Two modern bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets serve the campground, along with a dump station and playground. Six ADA-accessible concrete pads connect directly to restroom facilities. Hammock camping is permitted at all sites. The park also offers Gap Point primitive camping accessible only by foot via the 2.5-mile Gap Point Trail or by paddle craft. The island is renowned for fishing, birdwatching, and stargazing due to minimal light pollution. Beach facilities include six large shelters with grills and picnic tables. Three beach wheelchairs and two electric mobility devices are available. Access to St. George Island is via a 4-mile bridge from Eastpoint, approximately 75 miles southwest of Tallahassee.

Directions

From Eastpoint, Florida, cross the 4-mile St. George Island Causeway Bridge. Turn left onto Gulf Beach Drive and continue approximately 4 miles to the park entrance. The campground is located behind the dunes within the park.
