About
Located on a barrier island fronting historic Apalachicola Bay, Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park offers 60 developed campsites with electric and water hookups in a pine flatwood setting behind historic dunes. While campsites don't have ocean views, they're only a quarter-mile from the Gulf beaches. Six sites feature concrete pads with connecting sidewalks to accessible restroom facilities. The campground includes two bathhouses with hot showers, a playground, a central dump station, and nature trails winding through pine forests and coastal scrub. Maximum RV length is 43 feet, and pets are welcome on leash but not allowed on beaches. The park encompasses 1,962 acres with 9 miles of pristine white sand beaches along the Gulf Coast. Visitors enjoy world-class swimming, surfing, fishing, kayaking, and shelling opportunities. The bay side features healthy marshes teeming with wading birds and saltwater fish. Nearly 300 bird species have been documented here, making it a premier bird-watching destination during spring and fall migrations. The park offers some of the darkest skies in the Panhandle for exceptional stargazing, with the Gulf providing 180 degrees of no light pollution. Multiple hiking trails include the 2.5-mile Gap Point Trail and the 1-mile East Slough Overlook Trail with boardwalks and observation platforms.
Directions
Access to St. George Island is via a 4-mile bridge from Eastpoint, Florida. Eastpoint is located approximately 75 miles southwest of Tallahassee. The park is located on the east end of St. George Island at 1900 E. Gulf Beach Drive.
