About
William H. Harsha Lake Dam is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project located roughly four miles south of Batavia, Ohio, on the East Fork of the Little Miami River. Originally called East Fork Lake, it was renamed in 1981 to honor retired congressman William H. Harsha. The lake became fully operational in May 1978. The dam site offers two reservable group shelters with electricity: the Tailwater Shelter and the Overlook Shelter. A Visitor Center located one-half mile beyond the main dam on Slade Road provides interpretive displays, a scenic overlook, and a natural trail. Fossil finding is a popular activity in the nearby spillway with free permits available from the Visitor Center. Hunting, fishing, and trapping are permitted in accordance with applicable laws. No overnight camping of any type is permitted at the William H. Harsha project. Visitors seeking campground facilities should visit East Fork State Park, which operates a nearby campground accessible from Half Acre Road off of SR32 near Afton.
