The shelter is situated near the park's beach area and boat ramp along Harsha Lake, providing convenient access to swimming and boating activities. With a capacity of 75 people, the shelter serves as an ideal location for group gatherings and events. East Fork State Park encompasses 4,870 acres and is one of the largest state parks in Ohio. The park features Harsha Lake, which offers unlimited horsepower boating, fishing, swimming, and paddling opportunities. The shelter's namesake comes from a nearby prehistoric Indian mound believed to have been built by the Adena culture, adding historical significance to the location. The area was also inhabited by Erie Indians until the mid-1600s. The park offers diverse amenities including a large campground, nature center, and extensive trail systems for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and backpacking. Multiple parking areas provide access to different sections of the park, with the Indian Mound parking lot serving the shelter and beach area.
