About

Willamette Mission State Park sits on a former mission site established in 1834, now preserved as a scenic riverside retreat in Marion County. The park is home to the world's largest black cottonwood tree and offers over 13 miles of trails winding through forests, wetlands, and filbert orchards. Campers can access the Willamette River via a boat launch near the Wheatland Ferry at the park's north end. The campground operates seasonally from May 15 through September 30 and includes four spacious horse camp sites with four-stall corrals each, one group tent site (Beaver Island) for up to 75 people, and a hiker/biker camp area. All sites include fire rings and picnic tables. Flush restrooms are located throughout the park, though showers are not available. The park requires reservations for horse camp and group sites, while hiker/biker camping is first-come, first-served. Equestrians particularly appreciate this park, with dedicated trails and well-designed horse facilities. The park hosts seasonal flooding during winter and spring rainstorms, contributing to the decision to close camping facilities during the off-season.
