About
Willaby Campground occupies a prime location on the south shore of glacially carved Lake Quinault within Olympic National Forest's temperate rainforest ecosystem. The campground offers 19 standard sites for tents, trailers, and RVs plus 2 walk-in tent sites, all nestled beneath towering Sitka spruce, Douglas-fir, western hemlock, and western red cedar. The dense forest canopy creates deep shade while the forest floor is blanketed with lush rain forest plants including moss, ferns, false lily-of-the-valley, and oxalis. Lake Quinault is part of the Quinault Indian Nation, so fishing and boating require permits purchased through local merchants or the Nation directly. The nearby Lake Quinault Lodge offers boat and kayak rentals, interpretive tours, a restaurant, and gift shop. The forest features 10 miles of hiking trails and numerous waterfalls within walking distance, including the Big Spruce Tree Trail, Forest Service Nature Trail, Kestner Homestead Trail, and Maple Glade Trail. For more adventurous outings, visitors can drive up the valley to hike along rivers or climb 4,200-foot Colonel Bob Peak for expansive mountain and valley views. Ocean beaches and the National Fish Hatchery are also nearby.
Directions
