About

Queets Campground sits in a quiet, remote corner of Olympic National Park's temperate rainforest along the Queets River. This 20-site primitive campground provides a true wilderness experience for those willing to make the journey via the Upper Queets Road, the only access point since a past mudslide severed the lower road connection. The area receives over 100 inches of rain annually, creating a lush landscape of towering Sitka spruce, western red cedar, and moss-draped bigleaf maples. The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis at $15 per night, with self-registration at the campground. Facilities are basic: pit toilets are available but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Campfires are permitted in designated fire grates when no fire ban is in effect. The Queets Ranger Station nearby is unstaffed. This area serves as a launching point for the Queets River Trail, a challenging backcountry route that follows the river deep into the park's interior. Backpackers venturing beyond the campground need wilderness permits and bear canisters. Pets are allowed in the campground on leash but are prohibited on trails. A boat launch at the campground provides river access.

Directions

Queets Campground is only accessible from the Upper Queets Road. Take Highway 101 to Road 21 (near the town of Queets), then follow Road 21 to Upper Queets Road. The lower Queets Road access was cut off by a past mudslide.
