About

Allen Creek Horse Camp is a primitive equestrian campground located south of Bridge Creek Wilderness in Oregon's Ochoco National Forest. Nestled among large ponderosa pine trees, the camp sits along the creek that feeds nearby Allen Creek Reservoir. The quiet, secluded setting makes it an ideal base for horse camping in the Ochoco backcountry. The campground offers five maintained sites, each with a picnic table, and several corrals for securing horses. A stream borders the east side of camp for watering animals, though no potable water system exists. Vault toilets are available on site. There are no manure pits, so the Forest Service requests that campers pack out all horse waste. Allen Creek Reservoir is nearby but cannot be accessed directly from the campground; instead it can be reached through BLM land a few miles away. The Baneberry Trail (#812), an interpretive trail with signs about the area's mining history, begins at the trailhead within the camp. This is a horse-focused facility and visitors without horses should consider camping elsewhere.
