About

Ochoco Forest Camp sits in the Ochoco Mountain range near 6,926-foot Lookout Mountain, known for its unusual rock formations. The campground features sites nestled among old-growth ponderosa pine along Ochoco Creek. A large group pavilion accommodates up to 125 people and is popular for weddings and family reunions, with a meadow and group fire ring area. The Lookout Mountain Trail is located across from the campground and climbs to the summit, offering views of the Cascades and spring wildflowers. The trail is open to hikers and mountain bikers. Nearby Walton Lake provides additional recreation with a swimming beach, fishing pier, boat ramp, and stocked rainbow trout. Wild horses from the Big Summit herd frequently roam the area. Wildlife includes Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, and diverse bird species such as white-headed woodpecker, belted kingfisher, spotted sandpiper, cinnamon teal, Steller's jay, and yellow-headed blackbird. The area is dominated by ponderosa pine and offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing.
