About

Wildwood Recreation Site is a year-round day-use destination located 39 miles east of Portland on Highway 26 near Welches, Oregon. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the 550-acre site sits along a scenic bend of the Wild and Scenic Salmon River, surrounded by old-growth Douglas fir, western hemlock, and western red cedar forest. The highlight is the Cascade Streamwatch Trail, a 3/4-mile accessible paved loop featuring interpretive displays and a unique underwater fish viewing chamber where visitors can observe native salmon and steelhead. The Wetlands Trail connects to the challenging 4.7-mile Boulder Ridge Trail climbing into the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. Day-use facilities include picnic areas with tables and grills, group shelters with outdoor kitchens, athletic fields, and volleyball and basketball courts. This is a day-use facility only with no overnight camping. The site is open from 8 AM until 30 minutes before sunset or 8 PM, whichever is earlier. Visitors must exit by the posted closure time as gates close promptly. Day passes cost $5 per vehicle and are available online or at the onsite automated fee machine (credit card only).
