About

Wildwood Recreation Site encompasses 550 acres of beautiful forested land along a bend in the spectacular Wild and Scenic Salmon River, located on the Mount Hood Scenic Byway near Welches, Oregon. This year-round day-use area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management and offers extensive recreation facilities surrounded by old-growth Douglas fir, western hemlock, and western red cedar. The site features two accessible interpretive trails. The Cascade Streamwatch Trail is a paved 3/4-mile loop with educational displays, picturesque Salmon River views, and a unique underwater fish viewing chamber where visitors can observe native fish below stream level. The Wetlands Trail is a 3/4-mile boardwalk loop through wetland ecosystems with tactile interpretive elements including Braille and raised letters. For more adventurous hikers, the Boulder Ridge Trail climbs 4.7 miles up the steep slopes of Huckleberry Mountain into the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. Wildwood offers excellent facilities for groups and families including multiple group shelters, over 40 family picnic sites, outdoor picnic kitchens, athletic fields, volleyball and basketball courts, and a playground. All picnic sites have tables, fire rings, and grills.
