About

Riley Horse Campground is an equestrian-focused facility located northwest of Mount Hood in Oregon's Mount Hood National Forest. Situated at approximately 2,100 feet elevation in the Old Maid Flat geologic area, the campground sits alongside Lost Creek near the Sandy Wild and Scenic River. While designed for equestrians, the 14 campsites may be used by other visitors as well. Each site features horse corrals or cross-rail hitching posts, picnic tables, and campfire rings with grills. The campground has vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Average spur length is 35 feet. Campers are responsible for cleaning up after their horses. Several trails are accessible directly from the campground. The 5.3-mile Cast Creek Trail leads to the Zigzag Mountain Trail, and combined with the 4.9-mile Horseshoe Ridge Trail, riders can complete a nearly 14-mile loop. The 3-mile Sandy River Trail follows the river. Fishing for trout, salmon, and whitefish is available in Lost Creek and the nearby Sandy River. The trailhead for Ramona Falls, one of Mount Hood's most popular hikes, is a short drive away.

Directions

From Sandy, OR, follow US Highway 26 for 18 miles to Zigzag. Turn north (left) onto Lolo Pass Road (Road 18). Travel 4.5 miles, then turn right on Road 1825 and continue for approximately half a mile. Bear right, staying on Road 1825, cross the Sandy River bridge, and continue for another half mile to Road 1825-382. Turn right, cross the Lost Creek bridge, and the campground is immediately on the right.
