About
Hideaway Lake Campground occupies a single loop above the scenic Hideaway Lake in the high Cascades of Oregon's Mount Hood National Forest. The campsites are tucked beneath a heavy canopy of mixed conifers including Douglas fir and hemlock. Rhododendron shrubs and ample spacing between sites provide excellent privacy, creating a tranquil forest atmosphere. This is a primitive campground with no potable water or restroom facilities. Campers must be fully self-sufficient, bringing their own water and prepared to pack out waste. The 16-foot vehicle length limit means this campground is best suited for tent camping, small pop-up trailers, or compact vehicles. The access road between Shellrock Creek and Hideaway Lake Campgrounds is in rough condition with washboards and potholes. Recreation activities focus on the lake itself, with non-motorized boating and fishing being primary draws. Day hiking and picnicking opportunities are also available in the surrounding forest. The campground operates seasonally from late May through early September, weather and road conditions permitting.
