About
Green Canyon Campground is located along the Wild and Scenic Salmon River in Mount Hood National Forest, nestled in a canyon surrounded by old-growth forest. The campground features 15 sites suitable for tents and RVs, with a maximum vehicle length of 22 feet. Mature trees provide ample shade throughout the campground, with sites 7-15 positioned closest to the river for those seeking waterside camping. The location offers excellent access to hiking trails leading into the adjacent Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, making it an ideal base for backcountry exploration. The Salmon River provides fishing opportunities during summer months, though anglers should consult Oregon fishing regulations for specific dates and restrictions. The campground setting combines the peaceful atmosphere of old-growth forest with the sounds of the nearby river. This is a rustic campground with vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and is accessible via Forest Road 2618, approximately four miles south of Highway 26 near Wemme. A seasonal gate closes the access road during winter months.
Directions
From Sandy, Oregon, travel southeast on Highway 26 to Forest Road 2618, about one mile past the town of Wemme. Follow Forest Road 2618 south for approximately four miles to the campground.
