About
Wildhorse Crossing Campground occupies a scenic stretch of Owyhee Canyon in the remote northeastern corner of Nevada, positioned right along the Owyhee River approximately 68 miles north of Elko on State Highway 225. At 6,000 feet elevation, the campground serves as a basecamp for exploring the rugged high desert landscape of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
The campground features vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, with fire rings and grills available. However, potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own supply. Cell service is also unavailable in this remote canyon setting. The surrounding area offers diverse recreation including fishing at nearby Wildhorse Reservoir and along the Owyhee River, extensive OHV trail systems, mountain biking, horseback riding (horses and pack animals are permitted), hiking, and exceptional stargazing opportunities.
The campground operates seasonally from approximately May through November, depending on weather and road conditions. Sites are first-come, first-served and cannot be reserved in advance.
