About

Big Bend Campground is a 15-unit established campground located in an aspen grove surrounded by wide open country in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, approximately 15 miles northeast of Wildhorse Reservoir. The campground sits at a moderate elevation and is particularly popular with hunters during hunting seasons and OHV users exploring the extensive trail system in the area. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire pit. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times. The campground is accessible via County Road 745 (Meadow Creek Road), approximately 67 miles north of Elko on State Route 225, then 16 miles on the county road. The area offers diverse recreation opportunities including mountain biking, OHV riding, hiking, horseback riding, and in winter, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. The historic Gold Creek mining town site, part of the Island Mountain Mining District, is located 5 miles south on County Road 745. While very little remains of the town (most structures were moved or torn down in the 1920s), a plaque at the site provides historical information about this former mining community.

Directions
