Jack Creek Campground is a free, primitive campground situated in a beautiful and historic area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest at 6,500 feet elevation. The campground sites are located in an open cottonwood grove with Jack Creek running adjacent to the camping area. This is a minimally developed facility with vault toilets but no potable water or trash service, so visitors must come prepared with their own water and pack out all garbage. The area is rich in history, with old mining towns such as Mardis, Charleston, and Gold Creek nearby, along with numerous small campsites utilized by early Americans scattered throughout the management area. The campground is particularly popular during hunting season and can fill up during that time. Fishing in Jack Creek and the surrounding area is also a major draw for visitors. Recreation opportunities include river and stream fishing, mountain biking, OHV trail and road riding, backpacking, and day hiking. The campground is accessible via County Road 732, located approximately 4 miles east of State Highway 226 and approximately 15 miles west of State Highway 225. Pets are allowed but must be kept on leash at the campground.
