About
Wilderness Road Campground sits in the lush Appalachian forests of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, where Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia converge. This historic location marks the passage once traveled by bison, Native Americans, and pioneers including Daniel Boone, who blazed the trail west through the Cumberland Gap. The campground features 151 woodland sites distributed across multiple loops, with 43 sites offering electrical hookups at 20-, 30-, or 50-amp service. Most sites require backing in, though one pull-through site is available. The campground accommodates RVs up to 50 feet and welcomes tent campers. Two comfort stations provide hot showers, flush toilets, and potable water year-round. During winter months (mid-November through mid-March), loops B, C, and D remain open with comfort station #2, while other loops and facilities close seasonally. A dump station serves registered campers near the entrance. Paved loop roads and group camping sites are also available. The campground provides direct access to the park's extensive trail network, including paths to White Rocks cliffs, Sand Cave, Skylight Cave, Gap Cave, and the historic Hensley Settlement. Hikers can explore over 85 miles of trails ranging from easy quarter-mile walks to challenging 10-mile backcountry treks through proposed wilderness areas.
