About

Whittaker Creek Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management campground located in Oregon's Coast Range, approximately 29 miles west of Eugene along Highway 126. The campground sits along Whittaker Creek near its confluence with the Siuslaw River, offering 30 tent-only campsites in a forested setting. Facilities include accessible vault toilets, potable water from hand pumps, fire rings, and picnic tables. A camp host is typically present from June through September. The recreation site features a swimming beach area on the Siuslaw River (best June through September), a children's play area, and a horseshoe pit. A paved boat ramp provides access for drift boats and canoes to paddle the 6.5-mile stretch of the Siuslaw River featuring Class II-III rapids with no permit required. The 2.5-mile Old Growth Ridge National Recreation Trail, designated a National Recreation Trail in 1994, climbs 1,000 feet through old-growth Douglas fir offering exceptional wildlife viewing and geologic features. In fall and winter, Chinook and coho salmon along with steelhead trout spawn in the creek adjacent to the campground. The Whittaker Creek Watchable Wildlife Site hosts educational programs for school groups participating in the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife's breeding program. The Oregon Coast is less than 30 miles away.
