About
Whitewater Memorial State Park is part of the Brookville Lake-Whitewater Memorial State Park Complex in east central Indiana, serving as a living memorial to World War II veterans. The park features a 200-acre man-made Whitewater Lake with shoreline hiking, swimming beach, fishing, and flat-water boating opportunities. Electric trolling motors only are permitted on Whitewater Lake, while full boat motors are allowed on adjacent Brookville Reservoir, which is accessible from the park. Camping facilities include 236 electric sites, 45 non-electric sites, a primitive horsemen's campground with 37 sites, youth tent areas, and housekeeping cabins. A camp store and dump station serve campers. The park offers 9 miles of bridle trails with access from both the day horsemen's area and the horsemen's campground. Hiking enthusiasts can explore trails including the 2.7-mile Lakeshore Trail, 2.5-mile Memorial Loop, and 2-mile Veterans Vista Loop with views of Brookville Lake. Recreational amenities include two boat launch ramps, boat rentals (canoes, paddleboats, rowboats), picnic areas with shelters, and seasonal interpretive naturalist services. The park became Indiana's 16th state park in 1949 after the land was purchased by Union, Fayette, Franklin, and Wayne counties. Marinas at Barton's Bay and Kent's Harbor provide additional boating access.
