About

Located in Franklin County at Brookville Lake, Mounds State Recreation Area is part of the 16,445-acre Brookville Lake complex managed by Indiana DNR. The 5,260-acre reservoir sits in the historic east fork of the Whitewater River Valley, an area rich with traces of prehistoric Native American mounds and 450-million-year-old Ordovician fossils. The campground offers 450 total sites across multiple loops, including 62 full hookup sites and 388 electric sites. Driveway lengths range from 30 to 60 feet, accommodating various RV sizes. Modern amenities include shower houses, flush toilets, a camp store, and a dump station. Each site typically includes a fire ring and picnic table. Recreational opportunities are extensive: two swimming beaches with mobility mats for accessibility, nine boat launch ramps, and over 25 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy nature walks to the rugged 16.5-mile Whitewater Trail. The lake is nationally known for sport fishing, particularly for walleye, and serves as one of Indiana's few sites where walleye eggs are harvested for stocking other lakes.
