About

Tailwater Shelter 1 is a day-use group picnic shelter located at the base of the Brookville Lake Dam, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The shelter provides convenient access to the Whitewater River tailwater, which is renowned for its cold-water trout fishing opportunities. This facility is ideal for group gatherings, family reunions, and day trips. The shelter includes electric hookups, cooking grills, a water spigot, and is located near modern indoor restrooms. The recreation area features a volleyball court and playground, making it suitable for groups with children. The Tailwater area remains open to the public even when the shelter is reserved, so other visitors can still access fishing areas and amenities. Parking is available for up to 98 vehicles. Brookville Lake offers extensive recreation opportunities including boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and rafting on the Whitewater River below the dam. The area features 51 miles of hiking trails, beaches, boat ramps, an 18-hole golf course, marinas, and shooting and archery ranges. The Brookville Visitor Center is located nearby and provides exhibits about the lake and the Corps' missions in the Ohio Valley. For overnight camping, nearby options include Quakertown and Mounds State Recreation Areas at Brookville Lake, or Whitewater Memorial State Park.
