About
Tailwater Shelter 2 is a day-use group picnic shelter located at the base of Brookville Lake Dam in Franklin County, Indiana. The shelter sits near the Whitewater River, which flows within sight behind the facility, providing excellent access to cold water trout fishing in the tailwater below the dam. The site features a large open grassy area surrounding the shelter and offers 98 parking spaces. The shelter comes equipped with electric hookups, a water spigot/fountain, and a cooking grill. Modern indoor restrooms are located nearby. The facility is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is available for reservation through Recreation.gov on a first-come, first-served basis. Special structures such as tents, canopies, or unique decorations outside the shelter footprint require advance approval from the Corps manager. Beyond the shelter, visitors enjoy access to the Whitewater River for canoeing, kayaking, and rafting directly below the dam. Brookville Lake itself offers 51 miles of shoreline with opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and horseback riding. The Tailwater Visitor Center is a short drive away and provides exhibits and information about the lake and Corps missions in the Ohio Valley.
