About
Whitehead Landing is a small, primitive campground and day-use area situated on a tributary to the Ochlockonee River in Liberty County's Apalachicola National Forest. This quiet campground offers shaded campsites under the trees, each equipped with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. The site features a concrete boat ramp that provides access to the Ochlockonee River, making it popular with anglers and boaters. Small motorboats, canoes, and kayaks can launch from the ramp to enjoy excellent fishing opportunities on the river. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. There are no showers or hookups available. Campers should note that the access road to the boat ramp is frequently underwater, which can make the boat ramp inaccessible at times. The site serves as a hunt camp during general gun season, though it remains open to non-hunters year-round. A natural well provides drinking water on site.
