About
Quaking Aspen Campground is named for the quaking aspen trees that shimmer brilliant green in spring and russet-gold in fall. Located at 7,000 feet elevation in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, the campground provides a base for exploring several remarkable sequoia groves. Freeman Creek Grove, at 1,425 acres, is an immense unlogged grove featuring several large sequoias including the President George Bush Tree. Bear Creek Grove offers trails winding through the Belknap Complex along Bear Creek and the Tule River. The campground has 32 single-family sites, two of which are ADA accessible. Facilities include vault toilets, potable water from faucets, picnic tables, and BBQ stoves. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 24 feet in length; larger RVs face turnaround limitations. Bear-resistant food storage lockers and trash cans are provided. Fishing opportunities include Peppermint Creek and streams in the Golden Trout Wilderness (last Saturday in April through November 15) and the Tule River Drainage year-round. The Summit Trailhead is 10 miles north, providing access to Slate Mountain and the Golden Trout Wilderness. The Trail of 100 Giants is 10 miles away. Day trips to Dome Rock and the Needles rock formation are popular. Supplies are available at Ponderosa Lodge approximately 2 miles from the campground.
