About

White Pine South Group Camp is one of two group campsites situated along scenic Avery Creek in the Appalachian Mountains of Pisgah National Forest. The facility sits at an elevation of 2,600 feet surrounded by mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls, and hardwood-forested slopes. This walk-in, tent-only site accommodates groups of up to 25 people, making it ideal for scout troops, families, and outdoor clubs. The campground offers picnic tables, vault toilets, lantern posts, campfire rings with grills, tent pads, and bear boxes. All equipment must be walked in from the parking area across a bridge, as vehicles are not permitted within the campsite. The forest provides excellent hiking and mountain biking trails, with Avery Creek and the nearby Davidson River offering quality trout fishing opportunities. The city of Asheville is about an hour away, offering cultural attractions, art galleries, shops, and restaurants. The small town of Brevard is closer and provides various amenities and services.

Directions

From the Asheville airport, take Highway 280 south to Brevard. Turn right on U.S. Highway 276. Go 1.75 miles to Forest Road 477 and turn right. Go 0.75-mile to the parking area on the right side of the road. Walk across the bridge to the campground entrance road.
