COVE CREEK GROUP CAMPGROUND

Open — Open year-round for reservations. The Upper Group Camp water system is temporarily out of order; campers must bring their own water. Creek crossings required for access may be impassable during heavy rains.

About

Cove Creek Group Campground is located in Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina, featuring two separate group camping sites along Cove Creek. The Upper and Lower Group Camp sites each accommodate up to 60 people and are surrounded by the lush forests of the Appalachian Mountains, with mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls, and hardwood-covered slopes nearby. Both sites offer shaded camping areas with ample room for tents and RVs, equipped with picnic tables, vault toilets, campfire rings, grills, and drinking water. The campground sits adjacent to Cove Creek and the Davidson River, providing excellent trout fishing opportunities. Multiple hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking trails can be accessed from the campground, including a trail along the creek that leads to a scenic waterfall. Access requires creek crossings on Forest Road 475A. The Lower Group Camp requires one creek crossing, while the Upper Group Camp requires two crossings. Heavy rains can temporarily make crossings impossible, and a four-wheel drive or high clearance vehicle is highly recommended. The campground is managed by Naventure and reservations are made through Recreation.gov. Asheville is approximately one hour away.

Directions

From Asheville Airport, take Highway 280 west to the U.S. Highway 64/280/276 intersection at Pisgah National Forest. Turn north onto U.S. Highway 276. After 4.5 miles, turn left onto Forest Road 475A and continue for 3 miles to the campground on the right.
