* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of western North Carolina, including the following areas, Avery, Buncombe, Burke Mountains, Caldwell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk, Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford, Haywood, Henderson, McDowell Mountains, Mitchell, Polk Mountains, Rutherford Mountains, Transylvania and Yancey and Upstate South Carolina, including the following areas, Greenville Mountains, Northern Spartanburg and Southern Spartanburg. * WHEN...Until 2 PM EDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rainfall tapers off behind the front, but runoff from previous rainfall will keep high water levels in portions of the area. French Broad River At at Grove Bridge Rd in Blantyre affecting Henderson and Transylvania Counties. .Excessive runoff from widespread 4 to 6 inches of storm total rainfall will maintain flooding along the French Broad River. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...French Broad River at Grove Bridge Rd in Blantyre. * WHEN...Until Monday evening. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, Minor Flood Stage. Farmland flooding continues on both sides of the French Broad River, especially between the river and Brevard and Pleasant Grove Roads. Floodwaters begin to impact boat access areas at Grove Bridge Rd. and Crab Creek Rd. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 6:30 AM EDT Sunday the stage was 16.0 feet and rising. - Bankfull stage is 15.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 16.5 to 17.0 feet by this evening. Cove Creek Group Campground is located in western North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest and consists of two separate group camping areas: Upper Group Camp and Lower Group Camp. Each site can accommodate up to 60 people and features shaded gathering areas with vault toilets, campfire rings, grills, and picnic tables. The campground is situated along Cove Creek and the Davidson River, making it ideal for groups seeking a basecamp for outdoor activities. The area offers excellent opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, river and stream fishing, and group picnicking. Interpretive programs are available upon request. The nearby Davidson River Campground sells kiln-dried firewood for $10 per bundle. Campers must pack out all trash and are responsible for keeping the access gate closed. Access to both group sites requires fording a creek, and a high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the possibility of high water conditions. Heavy rains may temporarily make crossing impossible. The campground operates year-round and reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov.
Directions
From the Asheville airport, take Highway 280 west to the U.S. Highway 64/280/276 intersection at Pisgah National Forest. Turn north onto U.S. Highway 276. Go 4.5 miles to Forest Road 475A and turn left. Travel on 475A for 3 miles to the campground on the right.
