COVE CREEK GROUP CAMPGROUND

About

Cove Creek Group Campground is located in western North Carolina's Pisgah National Forest and consists of two separate group camping areas: Upper Group Camp and Lower Group Camp. Each site can accommodate up to 60 people and features shaded gathering areas with vault toilets, campfire rings, grills, and picnic tables. The campground is situated along Cove Creek and the Davidson River, making it ideal for groups seeking a basecamp for outdoor activities. The area offers excellent opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, river and stream fishing, and group picnicking. Interpretive programs are available upon request. The nearby Davidson River Campground sells kiln-dried firewood for $10 per bundle. Campers must pack out all trash and are responsible for keeping the access gate closed. Access to both group sites requires fording a creek, and a high-clearance or 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to the possibility of high water conditions. Heavy rains may temporarily make crossing impossible. The campground operates year-round and reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From the Asheville airport, take Highway 280 west to the U.S. Highway 64/280/276 intersection at Pisgah National Forest. Turn north onto U.S. Highway 276. Go 4.5 miles to Forest Road 475A and turn left. Travel on 475A for 3 miles to the campground on the right.
