Pink Beds Picnic Shelter
This is a day-use picnic shelter only; overnight camping is not permitted. The shelter is reservable through Recreation.gov for $50. Flush restrooms are closed seasonally from mid-November through late March/early April.

Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Rainfall tapers off behind the front, but runoff from previous rainfall will keep high water levels in portions of the area. French Broad River At at Grove Bridge Rd in Blantyre affecting Henderson and Transylvania Counties. .Excessive runoff from widespread 4 to 6 inches of storm total rainfall will maintain flooding along the French Broad River. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...French Broad River at Grove Bridge Rd in Blantyre. * WHEN...Until Monday evening. * IMPACTS...At 16.0 feet, Minor Flood Stage. Farmland flooding continues on both sides of the French Broad River, especially between the river and Brevard and Pleasant Grove Roads. Floodwaters begin to impact boat access areas at Grove Bridge Rd. and Crab Creek Rd. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 6:30 AM EDT Sunday the stage was 16.0 feet and rising. - Bankfull stage is 15.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 16.5 to 17.0 feet by this evening. Pink Beds Picnic Shelter is a day-use picnic facility in Pisgah National Forest, named for the rhododendron, mountain laurel, and azalea that bloom in spring and summer. At 3,280 feet elevation, it sits in a relatively flat valley sustaining large pine trees and rare mountain bogs. This is NOT an overnight campground; camping is explicitly prohibited. The reservable shelter accommodates groups up to 40 people and is located about 100 yards from the parking area. The picnic area includes 21 tables, grills, flush toilet restrooms (closed mid-November through late March), and a historic Civilian Conservation Corps gazebo. No potable water is available on site. The Pink Beds Loop Trail, an easy 5-mile hike, begins from the parking area. The site is adjacent to the Cradle of Forestry in America Historic Site and four miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Sliding Rock Recreation Area.
Directions
From Pisgah Ranger Station/Visitor Center parking lot, turn right onto US 276. Drive north approximately 10 miles to Pink Beds Picnic Area. The facility is located along Hwy 276 (Forest Heritage National Scenic Byway), 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway and 11 miles from the intersection of Hwy 280 and US 64 in Pisgah Forest, NC.
