Sycamore Flats Picnic Shelter sits in a bend of the Davidson River within Pisgah National Forest, named for the sycamore trees that line the riverbanks. This day use area offers a reservable group picnic shelter with four tables and one grill, plus 40 additional picnic tables with grills scattered throughout the shaded grounds. The site is surrounded by lush hardwood forest and rhododendron, creating a beautiful setting for picnicking and river recreation. The Davidson River provides excellent opportunities for swimming, wading, trout fishing, and tubing. An accessible fishing pier accommodates anglers of all abilities. A large open field adjacent to the shelter offers space for games and activities. Two restrooms are available, one of which is wheelchair accessible. The site underwent reconstruction from July to November 2025 to repair Hurricane Helene damage, with improvements including new picnic tables and grills. Sycamore Flats is located just 1 mile from the intersection of Highway 280 and US 64 in Pisgah Forest, and 1.5 miles from the Pisgah Visitor Center along the Forest Heritage National Scenic Byway.
