Cove Creek Upper Group Camp is one of two group campsites located along Cove Creek in the lush forests of the Appalachian Mountains within Pisgah National Forest. The facility accommodates groups of up to 60 people and provides a large group gathering area, vault toilet, fire ring, and picnic tables. The campground is situated adjacent to both Cove Creek and the beautiful Davidson River, surrounded by mile-high peaks, cascading waterfalls, and slopes thickly forested with hardwoods. The area serves as a hub for numerous hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking trails, some accessible directly from the campground. A trail follows Cove Creek upstream to a scenic waterfall, while the Davidson River and creek offer excellent trout fishing opportunities. The shaded camping area provides a peaceful setting for groups looking to enjoy the natural beauty of one of North Carolina's most scenic areas. Visitors should note that two creek crossings are required on Forest Road 475A to reach the upper group camp. Heavy rains may temporarily make crossing difficult or impossible, and a four-wheel drive or high clearance vehicle is highly recommended. All crossings are attempted at the user's own risk, and caution should be exercised during high water conditions. The campground is very popular and sites are typically reserved most weekends and holidays.

Directions

From the Asheville airport, take Highway 280 west to the U.S. Highway 64/280/276 intersection at Pisgah National Forest. Turn north onto U.S. Highway 276. Go 4.5 miles to Forest Road 475A and turn left. Travel on 475A for 3 miles to the campground on the right. Two creek crossings required.
