About
Headwaters Roadside Campsites provides designated dispersed camping along Forest Road 475B (Headwaters Road) in the Pisgah Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest. This corridor features multiple roadside campsites along the gravel forest road, each equipped with a parking area, tent pad, and fire ring. The sites are located near Looking Glass Rock and provide easy access to trails including Sunwall Trailhead. These free campsites operate on a strictly first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations available. During peak season and weekends, sites can fill up quickly, sometimes by Thursday evening. The road runs from Davidson River Road to Highway 276, though portions of the lower end near Davidson River Road may periodically close for maintenance. The area is popular with mountain bikers and hikers exploring the extensive trail network in the Pisgah District. Campers should be prepared for primitive conditions with no facilities, potable water, or trash service. All trash must be packed out, and visitors should bring their own water. The 14-day stay limit applies to all dispersed camping in the forest. Bear-safe food storage practices are essential in this area.
Directions
From Brevard, take US 276 north into Pisgah National Forest. Turn onto Forest Road 475B (Headwaters Road) shortly after passing the Pisgah Fish Hatchery. Multiple campsites are located along this gravel road.
