Headwaters Roadside Campsites are designated dispersed camping sites located along Forest Road 475B (Headwaters Road) in the Pisgah Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest. The road begins near the Pisgah Fish Hatchery off US Highway 276, with campsites scattered along the gravel forest road. Each designated site includes a parking area, tent pad, and fire ring. These are primitive, pack-it-in, pack-it-out sites with no toilets, potable water, or trash collection. Camping is free and available on a first-come first-served basis only. Due to the area's popularity with mountain bikers and hikers accessing the extensive trail network near Looking Glass Rock, sites fill quickly on weekends and during peak season. Camping in the Pisgah Ranger District is restricted to designated sites only under Forest Order 08-11-07-23-163. Camping within 1,000 feet of roads outside designated areas is prohibited. The 14-day stay limit applies, with no more than 30 days in a 30-day period in the district.

Directions

From Brevard, take US Highway 276 north into Pisgah National Forest. Shortly after passing the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education and Fish Hatchery, turn left onto Forest Road 475B (Headwaters Road). Designated campsites are located along this gravel road.
