Effective Oct 8, 2025 - UPDATED - White Sage & Dragon Bravo Fires Temporary Area Closure

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the Kaibab National Forest will once again reduce the forest closure, reopening just over 7,000 additional acres of forest lands west of Highway 67 in the Murray Lake area where the Dragon Bravo Fire Incident Command Post was located.

Forest Road 354 on Kaibab & Prescott NF Temporarily Closed for Repairs

National Forest System Road (NFSR) 354 is closed for public safety due to flood damage and washed-out sections of the road, which lies on portions of the Prescott and Kaibab National Forests.

Firewood permits available 4/1 for Williams & Tusayan RDs, 5/1 for North Kaibab RD

Fuelwood permits will be available on April 1, 2025, for the Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts, and on May 1, 2025, for the North Kaibab Ranger District. Permit sales and firewood collection will run through December 31, 2025.

White Horse Lake Campground is nestled in the ponderosa pine forest of Kaibab National Forest at 6,600 feet elevation, 19 miles southeast of Williams, Arizona. The campground offers 94 single-unit sites, with 44 available by reservation and 50 first-come, first-served. All sites include tables, fire rings, grills, and tent pads, with 22 sites fully wheelchair accessible. The campground can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 38 feet. The adjacent White Horse Lake is a popular fishing destination for largemouth bass, crappie, and bluegill, with a small paved boat ramp available (electric motors only, 10 HP maximum). The area offers excellent hiking and mountain biking opportunities, including a trail following the lakeshore and routes to Sycamore Canyon Vista. Other nearby attractions include Sycamore Point, JD Dam, and the Overland Trail. Located on the Colorado Plateau just one hour from Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim, the campground provides convenient access to one of the world's natural wonders while offering a quieter, forested setting. Summer temperatures range from 50°F at night to 80-90°F during the day, with monsoon thunderstorms common in July and August. The campground is typically open May through September, with winter road closures due to snow from December through March.

Directions

From Williams, turn south onto 4th Street/County Road 73 (FR 173, Perkinsville Road) and drive about 9 miles to Forest Road 110. Turn left and proceed for approximately 7 miles to FR 109. Turn left again and follow for about 3 miles to the campground. Forest Roads 110 and 109 are high-use roads and can become rough during peak season. Roads may be closed due to snow during winter.
