About

Spring Valley Cabin & Bunkhouse offers a unique overnight experience in a piece of Forest Service history. Built in 1917 as a ranger residence, the cabin sits at 7,320 feet in the Kaibab National Forest, surrounded by ponderosa pines and overlooking a scenic meadow with views of the San Francisco Peaks. The property is located about 30 miles west of Flagstaff and roughly an hour from the Grand Canyon's South Rim. The main cabin accommodates up to 10 guests and features a fully equipped kitchen with propane stove, refrigerator, microwave, and potable water. Heating comes from electric/propane heaters and a woodstove. The cabin has a flush toilet and shower. For larger groups of 11-17, the adjacent bunkhouse adds sleeping capacity for 7 and has a small woodstove but no plumbing. Outside, you'll find a vault toilet, picnic tables, grills, and a firewood enclosure. Guests must bring their own bedding, towels, food, dish soap, and garbage bags. Pets and smoking are prohibited inside both structures. Winter access can be challenging as Forest Road 76 is not maintained and may require the final mile to be covered on skis or snowshoes.

Directions

From Flagstaff, follow I-40 west for about 30 miles and take exit 178 at Parks. Proceed north one-tenth of a mile and turn left onto Old Route 66 for about a half-mile. Turn right at the Old Parks Store onto Spring Valley Road/County Road 141 and continue to the intersection of Forest Road 76, just past milepost 8 (pavement ends before milepost 6). Look for the Spring Valley Cabin sign. Turn left on FR 76 and proceed less than a mile; the cabin will be on the left.
