About
Dogtown Lake Campground offers a scenic pine forest setting along the shore of a medium-sized lake on the Kaibab National Forest's Williams Ranger District. Named after the extensive prairie dog towns that once covered the area, the campground sits at 7,050 feet elevation with spectacular views of Bill Williams Mountain. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout, bluegill, largemouth bass, and crappies, making it a popular fishing destination. Only small electric boat motors up to 10 horsepower are permitted on the lake. The campground provides convenient access to hiking opportunities including a guided nature trail and a trail leading to the top of Davenport Hill for scenic overlooks of the surrounding area. Located approximately 6.5 miles southeast of Williams, the campground offers easy access via paved and gravel all-weather roads. Its location makes it an ideal base for exploring the region, with Grand Canyon National Park and Flagstaff both within driving distance. Dogtown Lake operates seasonally with camping typically available May through September depending on weather conditions. The campground accepts reservations through Recreation.gov and has a 14-day maximum stay limit. Day-use fees apply for visitors not camping overnight, with an annual pass option available.
