About

Dogtown Lake Campground offers a scenic setting in a pine forest along the shore of a small lake, conveniently located near Grand Canyon National Park and the cities of Williams and Flagstaff, Arizona. Named for the extensive prairie dog towns that once covered open areas nearby, the campground now sits surrounded by ponderosa pine forest at an elevation of 7,050 feet on the Kaibab National Forest's Williams Ranger District. The campground features 50 individual campsites, four double sites, and one group site that can accommodate up to 80 people. All sites are accessible with level parking and offer both pull-through and back-in options suitable for RVs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. Campers are drawn to the area's fishing opportunities, as the lake is stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout, crappie, channel catfish, bluegill, and largemouth bass. A guided nature trail near the lake and a hiking trail leading to a scenic overlook atop Davenport Hill provide additional recreation. The calm waters invite canoes, kayaks, and small electric motorboats (up to 10 horsepower; gas motors prohibited). The campground sits just 6.5 miles southeast of Williams with spectacular views of Bill Williams Mountain. Summer temperatures range from 50 degrees at night to 80-90 degrees during the day, with monsoon thunderstorms possible July through August. Snow is common December through March. Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim is just over one hour north, making this an ideal base camp for exploring the region.
