About

Whispering Pine Horse Camp is a rustic equestrian facility specifically designed for horse campers visiting the Sisters area of Deschutes National Forest. Located along the scenic McKenzie Pass Highway (OR 242), this nine-site horse camp offers corrals at each site and serves as a gateway to riding opportunities in the Three Sisters Wilderness. The campground is designated exclusively for equestrian use to ensure safety and courtesy for both horses and riders. Each site accommodates up to four horses with corrals provided, and the maximum spur length is 40 feet. As part of the forest's invasive species prevention program, weed-free feed is required for all horses. The location provides early season trail access compared to higher elevation trailheads. While there are no officially-designated trails departing directly from camp, riders can follow unsigned forest roads to reach nearby trailheads and lower-elevation destinations. The rustic setting includes vault toilets but no potable water, so campers must bring their own water supply.

Directions

From Sisters, travel approximately 6 miles west on Highway 242 (McKenzie Pass Highway). Follow signs into Whispering Pine Horse Camp. Note: Highway 242 is seasonally closed November through mid-June.
