About
Meadow Creek Loop Campground is one of four camping loops at Lake Sherwood Recreation Area in Monongahela National Forest. Perched along the 156-acre Lake Sherwood at an elevation of 2,600 feet, this complete family destination offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. Each campsite includes a parking spur, tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. The recreation area features flush toilets, hot showers, and running water during the summer season, with vault toilets and a hand pump well available in spring and fall. A dump station is on-site, though hookups are not available. Anglers can fish for tiger muskie, channel catfish, bullhead, bluegill, and largemouth bass in the lake, while Meadow Creek below is intermittently stocked with trout. Two sand beaches connected by a footbridge provide swimming access, and boats with electric motors are permitted on the lake. Numerous hiking trails depart from the picnic area, including the popular 3.5-mile Lake Sherwood Trail that circles the lake. Wildlife is abundant in the area, with black bear, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, coyote, red and gray fox, bobcat, fisher, otter, and mink calling this forest home. The recreation area also features picnic shelters, a playground, volleyball courts, and horseshoe pits.
