West Branch Equestrian Camp offers a dedicated horse camping experience within the 8,000-acre West Branch State Park in Portage County, Ohio. The 22 primitive, non-electric campsites are set in a spacious wooded environment with large plots capable of accommodating horse trailers. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, while the camp provides essential equestrian amenities including high lines for securing horses, stock water for animals, a horse wash to cool mounts after trail rides, and a mounting block. The campground serves as a gateway to nearly 20 miles of bridle trails that traverse the park's diverse landscape. These natural surface trails wind through woodlands, meadows, and ravines, featuring multiple water crossings and seasonal wet spots. The trails lead through gently rolling terrain toward the shores of the 2,650-acre Michael J. Kirwan Reservoir. Restroom facilities are available in the camping area. West Branch State Park is located near Akron in northeast Ohio. Beyond equestrian activities, the park offers boating, fishing, swimming at a designated beach, hiking trails, and a dog park with a swimming pond. The main campground area has additional amenities including a dump station, showers, and laundry facilities.

Directions

From Ravenna, Ohio, take State Route 5 east for approximately 5 miles. Turn left onto Esworthy Road and continue for about 1 mile to reach the campground entrance.
