Lake Milton State Park occupies nearly 1,700 acres in northeast Ohio's Mahoning County, centered on a reservoir created in 1917 when a dam was installed on the Mahoning River. Originally built to supply water for Youngstown's steel mills, the lake was dedicated as Ohio's 72nd state park in 1988. Today it serves as a popular day-use destination for water recreation and outdoor activities. The Craig Beach area features a 600-foot sandy swimming beach with modern restrooms, showers, and changing facilities, plus a playground, basketball court, and sand volleyball court. Three boat launch ramps provide access to the lake, which has unlimited horsepower boating and is stocked with muskellunge, walleye, largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and channel catfish. Seasonal rentals for kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddleboards, pontoon boats, and wave runners are available at the Harry Meshel Picnic Area. Beyond water activities, the park offers The Osprey, an 18-hole disc golf course with lake views, a public archery range, and trails including a 1.25-mile nature trail with a paved Storybook Trail section and a 10.5-mile mountain bike trail system. Five picnic shelters can be reserved, and 100 seasonal dock rentals are available. Winter visitors enjoy ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
