About
West Branch Campground sits along the West Branch of Indian Creek in the Klamath National Forest, approximately 12 miles north of Happy Camp on Indian Creek Road. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, the site originally served as a camp for crews building Greyback Road, later became a fire guard station, and eventually opened as a public campground. The campground features 10 family campsites scattered throughout a shaded setting that camping guidebooks have described as quiet, secluded, and tranquil. The campground was severely burned by the Slater Fire in September 2020, which significantly impacted facilities. The area offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, scenery, swimming, and serves as the last Forest Service campground on the State of Jefferson Scenic Byway before the Oregon border. When open, the campground operates as a no-fee facility on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day camping limit. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash.
