About
Texas Flats Campground is a horse-friendly group camping facility located on McGilvery Creek in the Bass Lake Ranger District of Sierra National Forest. The campground is divided into four distinct group areas: Manzanita, Red Fir, White Fir, and Cedar, each accommodating between 20-30 people and up to 100 people total. The facility caters to equestrian groups, though no corrals or dedicated horse facilities are provided. The campground sits in the Highway 41 Corridor, an area renowned for the Nelder Grove of giant sequoias. Nearby logging and forest roads provide excellent equestrian trail opportunities. The Shadow of the Giants, a popular 1-mile interpretive trail through a grove of giant sequoias, is located just northwest of the campground. The Sierra Vista Scenic Byway runs nearby, offering an 83-mile drive through some of the most scenic areas of Sierra National Forest. Yosemite National Park is within day-trip distance, and visitors can also explore the historic Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. The surrounding Sierra National Forest landscape features rolling oak-covered foothills transitioning to heavily forested middle elevations. The campground is remote, accessed via a series of forest roads, making it ideal for groups seeking a more secluded wilderness experience.
