About

This is a day-use picnic shelter at Watkins Mill State Park, not an overnight campground. The covered shelter accommodates up to 80 people and includes picnic tables, cooking grills, electricity, and a water hydrant. A vault toilet is available in the nearby parking lot. The shelter provides easy access to the paved bicycle trail that loops around the park's scenic 100-acre lake. Watkins Mill State Park is located near Lawson in Clay County, Missouri, about 35 miles northeast of Kansas City. The park adjoins Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site, a National Historic Landmark featuring one of the few 19th-century woolen mills with original machinery still intact. Park activities include fishing for bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish in the lake, boating with a 10 HP limit, swimming, hiking, and interpretive programs.
