About

Confederate Memorial State Historic Site in Higginsville, Missouri preserves the grounds of what was once the Confederate Soldiers Home of Missouri, which provided refuge to more than 1,600 Civil War veterans and their families from 1891 to 1950. The 135-acre park features a reservable picnic shelter available for day use, along with six small fishing ponds, a disc golf course, and extensive walking and biking paths. The site contains five structures over a century in age: the chapel and cemetery (both listed on the National Register of Historic Places), a cottage, a farmhouse, and the hospital building. Visitors can explore the restored chapel and learn about the Confederate Home's role in post-Civil War Missouri. Note that this is a day-use shelter facility only; no overnight camping or lodging is available at this historic site.
