About
Watkins Campground sits on Applegate Lake within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The campground features 14 tent campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire pit, plus a group site that accommodates 20-50 people. Vault toilets are on site and garbage service is provided during the operating season. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground operates on a fee basis from early May through mid-September at $20 per night, with a $5 charge for extra vehicles. During the off-season, the site remains accessible as a free walk-in area, with parking at the gate. No services or garbage disposal are provided in the off-season, and campers must pack out all trash. Applegate Lake offers productive fishing with large populations of rainbow trout, landlocked Chinook salmon, smallmouth and largemouth bass, and crappie. The lake is stocked annually with approximately 120,000 rainbow trout and 50,000 young Chinook. The Collings Mountain-Watkins Campground Trailhead provides hiking access from the campground area.
