Jackson Campground On The Applegate River

Open

Open for the season. Reservations available through Recreation.gov with a two-night minimum required for Friday or Saturday arrivals. Some walkways have eroded and are not easily accessible for those using mobility devices.

About

Jackson Campground is a riverside retreat in Oregon's Applegate Valley, located within the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest near the historic town of Jacksonville. The campground sits directly on the shores of the Applegate River, offering excellent access for swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. An on-site general store provides supplies, and kayak and paddleboard rentals are available. The campground features eight tent-only sites, three non-electric RV sites, and one group site, all with flush toilets and potable drinking water. Campsites include fire pits and picnic tables. Camp trailers are not recommended due to tight corners and short campsite spur lengths. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and campfires are permitted only in developed fire pits. Nearby attractions include the inactive Bigfoot trap built in 1974, the only known Bigfoot trap in the world, found along the Collings Mountain Trail. Applegate Lake is minutes away with an 18-mile hiking trail circling the lake. The Rogue River National Recreation Trail and Crater Lake National Park are also within reach for day trips.

Directions

From Jacksonville, OR, travel south 6.5 miles on Highway 238 to Ruch, OR, and turn left onto Upper Applegate Road (County Road 859). Continue approximately 7 miles to the campground near mile marker 9.
